Pastors at Broadmoor Community Church
Jim grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, then spent twenty years enjoying New England and now loves being in Colorado. He is an extensive world traveler, spending sabbaticals in Singapore, Thailand and India. He received a Lilly Endowment grant for his most recent sabbatical in 2010, which allowed him to spend the summer visiting New Mexico and exploring Chiapas, Mexico and Peru, Ecuador and The Galapagos Islands. In the summer of 2011, he led a group from the church through Mexico learning from indigenous Mayan communities and human rights groups. Jim loves the cultures of these countries and hopes to be conversant in Spanish within five years. Jim and Andrea have a son and daughter-in-law who live in Denver. They enjoy camping, cycling and hiking together. Jim also enjoys cooking, good theater and movies.
Rev. Lynn Hurst, Minister of Music
At BCC since 2004
A southern belle, Lynn grew up in southern Arkansas and received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Oklahoma, then a Master of Church Music from the Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed seminary work at Vanderbilt before being ordained as a United Methodist minister. Lynn is an imaginative and gifted musician and author. Her books ‘Changing Your Tune: A Musician’s Handbook for Creating Contemporary Worship’ and ‘Praise Now!’ are published by Abingdon Press and she was a contributing author of ‘Church Music for Children’ and ‘52 Children’s Choir Activities’. The resurgence of BCC’s music program and its continued growth is the result of Lynn’s creativity, enthusiasm and abounding energy. Lynn helps people of all ages discover God’s gift of music. Her innovative Music Intern program is just one example of her success. Lynn’s husband, Jerry, is also ordained and serves as Minister of Adults and Worship at First United Methodist Church. They have two children – a daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in Colorado Springs and a son in Loveland. One of Lynn’s favorite pastimes is shopping for clothes with her granddaughter. She loves watching the Sci-Fi channel and is an avid Rockies fan. Healthy eating has recently become important to Lynn but the truth is that she secretly survives on chocolate truffles. If Lynn ever retires, she plans to travel the world.
Marta Fioriti, Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries
At BCC since 2012
Marta Fioriti has been leading faith formation programs for twelve years at various church settings. Most recently she served as Director of Youth and Adult Ministry at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Colorado Springs. Marta has a BA in Christian Education and is now pursuing a Masters of Arts in Spiritual and Pastoral Care from Iliff School of Theology in Denver. She is originally from the metro Washington DC area. Her husband Roger is an ordained minister. They have three children – Norah, Nicholas and Nina, and a black lab named Sophie. Her life’s work as a church educator has been spent creating environments and experiences for all people to grow in their faith. She is excited about creating an intentional ministry that will serve BCC young people and their families. Her ministry model integrates all-ages into the whole life of the church, and Marta hopes to broaden our understanding of Christian Education beyond the walls of the Sunday School classroom. Marta’s greatest joy is spending time with her family, whether it is around the dinner table or sitting on the front porch. She loves to plan creative play dates with her children and spend time chatting with her girlfriends.
